Aim and starting position

Two players use an 8×8 board. Each has 16 men in two full rows, leaving the back row empty. Light moves first. Win by capturing every opposing piece or leaving the opponent without a legal move.

Aim and starting position

Men and kings

A man moves one empty square forwards or sideways, never diagonally or backwards. Ending a move on the opponent's back row promotes it to a king. A king moves any distance horizontally or vertically through empty squares. Newly promoted men gain king movement on their next turn.

Compulsory capture

If any capture is possible, a quiet move is forbidden. A man jumps over an adjacent opposing piece to the empty square immediately beyond it, forwards or sideways. A king may cross empty squares before its victim and land on any empty square beyond it in the same line. Each captured piece is removed immediately, potentially opening further jumps.

Compulsory capture

Multiple captures

Continue capturing whenever possible. Choose a sequence taking the greatest number of pieces; kings and men each count as one. Equally long sequences are your choice. A king cannot reverse 180 degrees between jumps. Select your piece, then each highlighted landing square. Only the final jump submits the complete move.

Multiple captures

Draws and settings

One piece against one is a draw. The third occurrence of the same position with the same player to move also draws, as does an accepted draw offer. Settings control clock time and increment. Resigning or running out of time loses. The final position remains visible until START sets up another game.
