  1. In short

Durak is a card game for 2–4 players, each playing for themselves. One player attacks and the next defends by beating the cards. The goal is not to be the last player left holding cards: that player loses.

  2. The deck and the trump

The deck has 36 cards: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K and A in every suit, from weakest to strongest. Everyone gets six cards. The face-up card sets the trump, the suit that beats the others. It lies under the draw pile and is drawn last. The player with the lowest trump in hand starts and may attack with any card.

  3. Attacking and defending

The defender is the next active player clockwise. The attacker selects a card and presses Play. To defend, select the attacking card on the table, select your covering card, then press Defend. A higher card of the same suit beats an attack. Any trump beats a non-trump, but a trump can only be beaten by a higher trump. You may take the cards even if you could defend. An attack cannot be passed on to another player.

Attack: 7♣. Defence: 9♣ (a higher card of the same suit) or any trump, for example 6♥ when hearts are trumps.
  4. Adding cards

After each defence, the main attacker and then the other opponents clockwise may add one card or pass. An added card must have the same rank as any attacking or defending card already on the table. The defender answers each new card. Adding another card opens adding to everyone again. You cannot pass before the first attack. In one bout you may attack with at most six cards, and no more than the defender held at the start of the bout. The limit counts attacking cards, not cards used to defend.

  5. Taking the cards or beating the attack

Take the cards means giving up the defence of the whole bout. Opponents can still add matching cards up to the same limit. When everyone passes or the limit is reached, the defender takes all the cards from the table. After a successful defence the cards are removed from the game. First the main attacker draws up to six cards, then the other attackers clockwise, and the defender last. Drawing ends when the pile runs out. After a successful defence the defender starts the next attack. After taking the cards the defender is skipped and the next active player attacks.

  6. The end of the game

When the draw pile is empty, players with no cards leave the game after the bout ends and make no more moves. The last player holding cards loses, and everyone who got rid of their cards shares first place. If the last players get rid of their cards at the same time, there is no loser.

  7. Table and leaving

At the table you choose 2, 3 or 4 players, the total thinking time per player and the time added after each action. There is no resigning. Leaving the game, running out of time or failing to return within the set time is a forfeit by that player and ends the game for the whole table. The others win. A short disconnection stops the clocks and lets you return to the game.
