  1. In short

Pan is a card game for 2–4 players, each playing for themselves. You play cards of at least the same value as the card on top of the pile and try to get rid of all your cards. Whoever is left holding cards gets the next letter of the word PAN. The third letter means losing.

  2. The deck and card order

The game uses a 24-card deck from nine to ace. The order of the cards is 9, 10, jack, queen, king, ace, and suit does not affect strength.

From lowest to highest: 9, 10, jack, queen, king, ace. Suit does not matter.
  3. First and later moves

The holder of the nine of hearts starts: they play it alone or all four nines together. After that, on your turn play one card or four cards of the same value. Their value must be at least equal to the card on top of the pile. Select the cards and confirm the play. Exception: the other three nines may be added to a lone nine of hearts.

  4. Taking from the pile

Instead of playing, you may take up to three cards from the top of the pile into your hand. The bottom nine of hearts always stays on the table. If only two cards lie above it, you take two. Taking cards ends your turn.

  5. End of a deal

Players with no cards are skipped. When only one player still holds cards, the game checks whether they can legally play their entire remaining hand at once. If so, nobody gets a letter. Otherwise the last player gets the next letter.

  6. End of the match

After a short break the next deal begins. Getting the third letter, the whole word PAN, means losing the match, and the other players win. The clock set at the table also applies.

  7. When someone leaves

There is no resigning. Leaving a game in progress, or running out of time, is a forfeit by that player and ends the game for the whole table. The others win.
