In short
Word Tiles is a word game for two to four players. You have seven letters on your rack and use them to make a word on the board, in one row or one column. The first word must pass through the centre square, and each following word must touch letters already on the board. For a word you score the sum of the letter values, and the coloured squares give bonuses. When the letters run out, the highest score wins.
Goal and language
Two to four players build words on a 15 × 15 board. Each has up to seven letters on the rack. Score points for valid words and for bonuses on the squares. The dictionary, the letter distribution and values depend on the game's shared language. An English room requires English words even from a player with a Polish interface.
First and later moves
The first word must have at least two letters and pass through the centre square. Place new letters in one row or one column, with no empty gaps inside the word; earlier letters may lie between them. Later plays must connect by a side to the existing layout. Letters already confirmed stay on the board.
Checking words
The words you place wait for the next player's decision. They may accept them (then they stay and that player goes on) or check all the new words in the dictionary of the chosen language, including short words formed crosswise. If all are in the dictionary, they stay and the checker loses their turn. If even one is missing, the move is taken back (counted as a pass) and the checker plays. A blank stands for a chosen letter, but is worth zero and keeps the assigned letter after confirmation.
Points and bonuses
The values of the letters of every word formed are added up. A coloured dot on a square triples the value of a new tile of the same colour: yellow for 1 point, green for 2, blue for 3 and red for 5. A diamond with “×2” or “×3” multiplies the whole word by that. On a computer the bonus description appears when you hover over the square. Bonuses work only when a tile is first placed, and later use of an old letter does not trigger them again. Laying all seven tiles in one move gives an extra 50 points. After a move the rack is refilled to seven as long as there are tiles in the bag.
Exchange, pass and the end
You can pass or exchange chosen letters, losing your turn. Everyone has three exchanges, available with at least seven tiles in the bag. Two full rounds of players without a word placed end the game, and exchanges also count towards this limit. The game also ends when the bag and one player's rack are empty. The values of the remaining letters are subtracted from their owners, and the player finishing with an empty rack also gets the sum of the opponents' penalties. The highest score wins.
The clock and leaving
At the table you set each player's time for the whole game (3 to 20 minutes). The clock runs only on your turn. When your time runs out, you drop out of the game and the others play on. If one player remains, they win. Leaving the game works the same way.
